National Cocktail Day Recipe: Sotol Old Fashioned
Happy National Cocktail Day! It’s one of our favorite days of the year, and we wanted to bring you a special Recipe of the Week to celebrate. We teamed up with our friends at Los Magos Sotol to create this Sotol Old Fashioned, a twist on the quintessential Old Fashioned cocktail.
Sotol is a liquor somewhat similar to other Mexican spirits like tequila and mezcal. The key difference is that tequila and mezcal are agave-based, while sotol is made from the sotol plant. It tastes similar to mezcal but with less smoky flavor and more floral notes. It can be used in plenty of great cocktails, but this Sotol Old Fashioned is our favorite. Find out more about sotol and check out some other recipes on Los Magos’ website!
We love the sweetness that sotol brings to this cocktail, and we supplement it with some sweetness of our own! The Lychee Cocktail Caviar in this cocktail complement the sotol’s earthy, floral notes perfectly. If you’re a tequila or mezcal lover, we strongly recommend picking up some Los Magos Sotol, but if you don’t have any on hand yet, feel free to modify this recipe with your favorite Mexican spirit.
Don’t forget to let us know the cocktail (or cocktails) you’re celebrating this national holiday with! Submit your favorite on our Recipes page. Cheers!
